Start of the field cricket collection season

Over the past two-and-a-half weeks we have been hearing the emergence of the fall field crickets (Gryllus pennsylvanicus and G. firmus). I am currently based in Harrisburg, PA, which is right in the middle of the hybrid zone formed by these two species. Research that is being conducted by myself and Dr. Erica Larson will explore temporal variation in genomic architecture and the variability of species boundaries in these field crickets (learn more about these projects on my Research page). Myself and new Larson Lab graduate student, Alyson Emery, will be collecting starting this week and through the middle of October along the hybrid zone from Connecticut to South Carolina and Tennessee. This field work is funded by the National Science Foundation (grants to Erica Larson and TJ Firneno) and the Orthopterists Society (grant to TJ Firneno).
